Middle East debut for Fiji at ATM

Fiji is to make its Middle East exhibition debut at next week’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) to maximise its tourism opportunities. In a bid to double its visitor numbers to over a million by 2014, Tourism Fiji has increased airlinks to Australasia from Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways to tap into the regional market. “Currently Middle East guests to Fiji only represents a small proportion of the total arrival numbers, however with the opening up for airlinks through Australasia and Hong Kong, it provides enhanced opportunities for Fiji,” said Tourism Fiji CEO Jo Tuamoto.According to data from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), the three main Gulf carriers operate almost 40,000 seats into Australia already. “With direct airline access into Australasia and Fiji’s existing daily air linkage out of there, Middle East travellers also have the option to couple the Australia and New Zealand experience with our island,” added Tuamato.The majority of Fiji’s visitors are from Australia and New Zealand but the island hopes to maintain a 9% tourism growth rate per annum and boost tourism spend to nearly
