Businesses operating in London experienced the most cancellations and negative impact from the volcanic ash disruption, a survey has revealed. Visit Britain’s survey found that 41% of London tourism businesses faced cancellations and six in 10 anticipate a negative long-term effect. Tour operators and study/education/youth operators have been more affected then other types of business, with 9/10 youth operators and 8/10 operators reporting an immediate impact. “Two thirds of surveyed tourism businesses have said that the volcanic ash cloud has had a negative impact on their business – rail and ferry operators are the only sectors to have reported a positive impact,” explained Vist Britain spokesperson Mark Di-Toro. Cancellations were higher in the business sector than leisure tourism and the domestic market was the least affected.
