English Riviera to celebrate author’s 120th birthday

Visitors to the seaside towns of South Devon can join a host of tours launched to commemorate some of Britain’s best-known detectives. Torquay’s Agatha Christie would have celebrated her 120th birthday in September this year, which also marks the 90th anniversary of the first Hercule Poirot story and the 80th year since Miss Jane Marple’s first appearance. Events across the English Riviera will take place at the annual Agatha Christie Festival in September but in the meantime visitors can walk the Agatha Christie Mile to experience the places that influenced her life and work including the Grand Hotel, Princess Pier and Beacon Cove. The first clue for the trail is at www.englishriviera.co.uk/agathachristie.
