The Connaught, London has opened its new ballroom and Moon Garden for events and functions. Up to 200 guests can attend the ballroom, where cuisine will is prepared by Michelin-starred chef Helene Darroze. Entrance to the ballroom, Georgian and Regency rooms are approached via a courtyard garden designed by six-time Chelsea Flower Show winner Tom Stuart-Smith. The floor to ceiling windows of the ground floor look out to the Japanese-inspired garden, which has a black granite serpentine water feature and limestone paving. Stuart-Smith wanted to create a design that was simple and potent at the same time to fill the 15m by 3.5m space. It’s an evocation or a crystallization of the idea of a landscape into a tiny space,” explained Stuart-Smith. Other features include a cloud-pruned Japanese tree, boxed hedges and hundreds of fibre optic lights embedded into the water centrepiece.
