A one-day training course has been launched to improve customer service performance in the Dorset tourism sector. Dorset and New Forest Tourism Partnership (DNFTP) is rolling out a locally contextualised version of the Welcome HostGold course. Participants will learn about what attracts visitors to Dorset, update their local knowledge and improve core customer service skills. “As we move towards 2012, we need to raise standards to enhance visitors’ experiences and better promote tourism businesses, the local area and Britain as a destination,” said Welcome to Excellence National Lead Sue Gill. Skills learnt on the course include effective communication skills, dealing with difficult situations, increase product knowledge, teamworking and understanding the sales role, up- and cross-selling. “Understanding our customers is key to meeting their expectations and product knowledge is key to selling the area,” explained DNFTP Project Manager Jo Edom.
