Liverpool targets Czech visitors with Beatles campaign

VisitBritain and the Beatles Story has launched a campaign to bring Czech travellers to Liverpool. Ex-Beatles drummer Pete Best and his band performed an exclusive concert in Prague earlier this week as part of the Imagine Liverpool Campaign to promote the city as a tourism hotspot. “Over five million tourists visit the UK each year from our target countries,” explained the Beatles Story Managing Director Jerry Goldman. “The Imagine Liverpool Campaign is looking at driving a significant proportion of those visitors to the Liverpool city region.” The campaign will focus on the Beatles to build on John Lennon’s iconic status in the Czech Republic. Young people in Prague established a memorial, the Lennon Wall, immediately after Lennon’s death in 1980, which Best visited during his stay. Now visitor attraction the Beatles Story has collaborated with the Prague National Museum on its current Beatlemania exhibition to draw in visitors. “The reaction to the Beatlemania exhibition has been really positive and I’m sure visitors to the National Museum will want to travel to Liverpool to experience the Fab Four’s home town,” said Goldman. “Pete Best performing in Prague was an exciting occasion for a nation of Beatles fans and a fantastic opportunity to promote Liverpool. Our campaign became a main feature on Czech television, radio and press.”
