Superbreak is expecting a 15% year on year growth in family break bookings over the school holiday period. Throughout the past two weeks, 60% of the operator’s UK break bookings have been for travel before the end of July, suggesting that the majority of family break bookings for the school holidays have not yet been made. With many families having held off making any holiday buying decision until now, Superbreak is keen for agents to push UK breaks and the pre-bookable attraction options available, as they are relatively easy to organise and book last minute, thus making them attractive for agents to promote. “Many of the buying public don’t think of their travel agent when considering booking a UK break, or perhaps even didn’t realise that they could book with an agent,” said Superbreak Sales Director, Ian Mounser. “However, agents have a great deal to offer for UK family breaks, because of all the pre-bookable extras that can be offered, whether it be tickets to see The Lion King in London, rail travel to say Edinburgh, tickets for Alton Towers or the new Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester. All such add-ons are fully commissionable.”To offer excellent value and encourage family booking, at many Superbreak hotels, children under 16 can stay free and have free rail travel when sharing a family room with two adults, or get 50% reductions when in their own room. This policy applies all year round, so includes school holidays also and the operator believes many agents and customers alike forget to promote this as a way of providing great value for money.
