Ferry numbers increase

Figures released by the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) show that ferry passenger numbers increased by 4% to 10.17 million in the second quarter of 2010, compared to the same period the previous year. DiscoverFerries, the consumer website of the PSA, said the upward trend demonstrates highlights the reliability of ferry travel. ‘With the school holidays upon us, now is the time to forget the hassles of long airport queues, baggage restrictions, delays and strikes and make a swift and flexible getaway by sea,” said Director of the PSA and Discover Ferries, Bill Gibbons. “When you take a ferry holiday, not only is the going smooth and easy but you can pack as much or as little luggage as you like. Unlike low-cost airlines which have recently raised fees for checked in luggage, taking a ferry is fair, flexible and the prices are transparent with no hidden extras’.”
