Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals up

Sri Lanka has seen a near 50% increase in tourist arrivals this year compared to 2009. Visitor numbers from January to June 2010 showed that 279,000 tourists went to the island and 45,000 of these came from the UK. “After five years of highs and lows in occupancy, we are now enjoying the fruits of peace on this beautiful island,” explained Amangalla resort in Galle Fort General Manager Olivia Richli. “Amangalla has had its best year ever, and the rest of the year is going to be very busy as we see renewed interest in Sri Lanka from many quarters.” Tourism on the island has been boosted by an investment estimated to be worth approx.
