Viking Airlines has pulled the plug on its move to provide a new base in the UK. The Sweden-based carrier has withdrawn its UK Air Operators Certificate (AOC) application following a change in laws and decided it would rather focus on building relationships with UK tour operators, tourist boards and the trade. As a result, Viking UK will not be launched and Noel Josephides will not be implemented as non-executive Chairman. Until recently EU licensed carriers could only fly to Turkey and Egypt from the state in which they are licensed. New legislation in Turkey has meant that EU licensed carriers can fly to the destination from any EU member state, should they have an AOC. Viking has licences in Sweden and Greece.
