Travellers urged to carry EHIC cards

Holidaymakers are being urged to carry valid EHIC cards to ensure their travel insurance claims are not rejected. Moneysupermarket.com Travel Expert Bob Atkinson has warned that an estimated three million people are carrying expired European Health Insurance Cards and this could prevent them receiving compensation. “Some insurers will refuse your cover if you failed to travel with a valid card,” Atkinson told the Daily Telegraph. “Some other insurers will waive the excess on claims where you have an EHIC card and used it for your treatment. It is vital that you have an up-to-date EHIC card and a full travel insurance policy when travelling in the EEA area.” EHICs replaced the E111 form in 2005 and is free for all UK travellers. It covers some medical expenses and can save travellers
