Visitors flock to Dover castle

The number of visitors to Dover castle has risen 35% compared to last year, following The Great Tower last summer. Since opening on 1 August 2009, more than 355,000 people have visited tourist attraction. “We are absolutely delighted with the success of The Great Tower, evidenced not only by the fantastic increase in visitor numbers but by the positive feedback we have had from the public,” commented the castle’s Marketing Manager Louise Dando. “All the research and investment we have put into the opening of The Great Towers is clearly paying off and with family events and activities continuing throughout August - and some great themed activities coming up over Autumn and Winter and we are expecting numbers to continue to grow as word of mouth about the transformed Tower spreads.” Meanwhile English Heritage membership sales increased 78% to more than 13,000 this year.
