Flightcentre to open new hyperstore

Flightcentre is set to open its new Oxford Street ‘hyperstore’ next month. The store, which is set to open on 1 September, will have a range of Flightcentre, Round the World and business travel teams. Flightcentre Brand Leader Steve Norris told Travel Daily he hoped the globally recognised road name would encourage bookings. “We see it competing well,” he said. “The High Street Kensington store has been great (and will remain open) but this will be larger.” The opening is part of a nationwide expansion for the agency, which hopes to launch in 10 new locations this year. “Flightcentre’s strategy from Australia was always to look to grow 20% each year either by staff or turnover,” Flightcentre Brand Leader Steve Norris. “But in the UK we slowed it down to consolidate, although we still grew staff numbers.” He said the company was now focused on opening new branches, particularly ‘building a footprint’ in regional areas in the next few years. “A store will open in Oxford City at the end of this year,” revealed Norris. “We also look to grow our presence in locations such as Manchester or Edinburgh in the next two years.”
