East of England targets backpackers

Businesses in the East of England are being asked to join a new marketing group to tempt backpackers to the area. The group, named the East of England Backpackers Network, wants to attract travellers to Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. This comes after it found that an estimated 90% of foreign backpackers visit London but do not venture around the outskirts. “We have everything that backpackers are looking for in this region, but without shouting from the right rooftops we’ll never attract significant numbers of them into this beautiful part of the world.” said Jason Borthwick, who developed the group. “The East of England Backpackers Network is about linking all those great organisations that already exist and putting them under the noses of the backpackers in London.” If enough companies express an interest then around
