Brazil Tourism to launch online travel training

The Brazilian Tourist Office is launching a new online travel trade training programme in September. The initiative, which will be operated through Visit Britain Sensational Travel Association, is set to train operators and agents on the destination, which is rapidly gaining popularity with British tourists. In the run up to the launch, the tourism board will be hosting a series of road shows in early September, in Oxford, Cambridge and London. “We want to promote the traditional parts of Brazil as well as the more ‘off the beaten track’ destinations,” explained Director of the Brazilian Tourist Board for UK and Ireland Chris Fuzinatto. “We want to introduce new hotspots and selling points to the British market. We’re hosting the World Cup in 2014 and then the Olympics in 2016 so we are expecting many more visitors in the next few years,” he told Travel Daily. Despite a drop in UK arrivals from 182,000 in 2008 to 172,000 in 2009, the Tourism Board is expecting growth this year after a record six months. “We’ve seen a huge number of arrivals in the first half of 210, though official figures from the UK haven’t been announced yet,” explained Fuzinatto. “Hopefully the road shows and the online training programme will help agents to see the destination and liaise with our partners. We hope the destination itself as well as the upcoming sporting events will make Brazil a top destination.”
