More Brits head to Gold Coast

The number of UK tourists visiting the Gold Coast has jumped by 18%, according to new figures. Tourism Research Australia has revealed that 80,000 Brits visited the city between July 2009 and June 2010 and there was also an increase in tourists from China (15%) and Japan (3%). International visitors to the area increased 5% and tourists spent more than AUS$1 billion. “Our ability to attract a 5% increase in international visitors, well above state and national trends, is a credit to the city’s wide popularity and the positive work of our tourism businesses as they are out there fighting for every tourist,” said Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter.
