Southend Borough Council has approved plans for a hotel development at London Southend Airport. The 129-bedroom hotel will incorporate three-star facilities with a separate five-star executive floor with 12 suites. It will include a restaurant, bar areas and conference facilities. “High quality, convenient hotel facilities are an essential ingredient of successful regional airports and are an important part of our plans to modernise the airport,” said Airport Managing Director Alastair Welch. “The hotel will greatly improve facilities for passengers, as well pilots and flight crew using the airport and will also benefit local businesses.” He added that permission had been granted to extend the airport’s runway and build a new railway station and control tower. The operator of the hotel will be announced soon.
