Visitor figures up for South Africa

South Africa Tourism recorded a 5.5% rise in UK visitors from March 2009 to March 2010. The country has also reported a general 22.3% increase in visitor arrivals during the same period. The increase in visitors has been attributed to the build up of the FIFA World Cup and remains optimistic that it will achieve its target of 10 million visitors by the end of 2010. “South Africa has proven to be a desired destination despite the reserved global outlook and people feeling the pinch of economic uncertainty,” said South African Tourism Country Manager UK Lebohang  Mokhesi. “Big events have had a positive visitor growth impact.” In addition, South Africa has revealed the impact of the World Cup campaign. Its foreign visitor numbers increased 32% compared to the same period last year and the biggest increases were seen in the German, Portuguese and Dutch markets.
