AITO Specialist Travel Agents has appointed a new chairman to oversee what it calls a ‘renaissance of travel agents’. Oliver Broad from Robert Broad Travel has joined the board, supported by Ted Wake of Kirker Holidays as his deputy. They will guide 130 independent companies as more consumers return to the high street to buy holidays. “AITO Agents is not a consortium and we don’t and won’t tell our members how to run their businesses,” explained Broad. “With the support of 100 niche AITO tour operators who are committed to selling through AITO Agents, we will produce the training, marketing support and unique networking opportunities they require to help them stand out in a challenging trading environment.” He said the panel would help agents ‘stay ahead of the market’ and offer a diverse product range away from ‘cheap sausage factory deals’. Other new members joining the panel include Tony Byrne from Great Rail Journeys; Peter Buckell from Global Travel Lounge; Gemma Antrobus from Haslemere Travel’ Pau; Bennett of Colchester Travel’ Stephanie Jones of Anatolian Sky and Chris Edwards of ITC Classics/Complete Caribbean.
