SIA to offer onboard internet

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced it will offer Wi-Fi internet and mobile phone communication onboard its flights. Through a deal with OnAir, passengers will be able to send and receive SMS texts, emails and calls. “With the increasing importance of remaining connected, and the more affordable charges made possible by the higher usage and more advanced technology, we are now fitting all our long-range aircraft with the full suite of telephony and Internet features so that our customers can stay connected,” said SIA’s Senior Vice President Product & Services Yap Kim Wah. The services will be available in the first half of 2011.
