Clients in the luxury travel sector prefer winter sun breaks to the traditional summer holiday, according to ITC’s latest survey. The operator, which sent questionnaires to thousands of clients, found that holidaymakers liked to travel between November and January or February. As a result, destinations such as the Caribbean and Indian Ocean have still fared the most popular amongst customers. “We wanted to engage our customers so we wrote to them asking what they wanted from a holiday,” explained ITC CEO Jennifer Atkinson. “We have to compete in a crowded market but also against the clients themselves, so tour operators need to offer added value.” However, despite the industry facing a DIY approach from holidaymakers, it seems the luxury traveller is in favour of a brochure rather than online material. According to ITC, the majority of its clients said they would rather receive its brochures than information online. Holidaymakers also noted customer service as its priority when looking for a holiday company, followed by reputation and knowledge.
