Tourism New Zealand welcomes Hobbit go-ahead

Tourism New Zealand has welcomed the news that Peter Jackson’s film production of The Hobbit is to go ahead. The Lord of the Rings prequel, which has been held back over a pay row, will now be shot in New Zealand to match the backdrop of the previous films. “People are still travelling to New Zealand today because of the exposure gained through the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit will provide another much-needed boost to our billion dollar tourism industry,” said Tourism New Zealand’s General Manager Public Affairs Suzanne Carter. “As with the Lord of the Rings triology, we will be looking at every opportunity to leverage the profile of the Hobbit to promote New Zealand.”
