Golf Holidays capitalises on post Ryder Cup frenzy

Europe’s largest golf travel company, Golfbreaks.com, has reported a surge in demand for golf holidays driven by last month’s thrilling Ryder Cup in Wales. More than a third of all site search clicks for golfing holidays were recorded in the week of the Ryder Cup, the firm reported. “Enquiries are currently 13 percent up on average on last year, with post event enquiries making up the most of the difference,” said Keith Mitchell, director of product and marketing at Golfbreaks.com. “In the two weeks post the Ryder Cup, enquiries have increased by 19.5 percent - this definitely translates the benefits - both economic and promotional - destinations can achieve by hosting a major golfing event.” Two weeks before the bi-annual golf competition kicked off, downstream traffic from www.rydercup.com to the travel industry jumped by nearly 50 percent - benefitting companies such as Thomas Cook, Thomson and Expedia.
