Business travel continues slow recovery

Business travel has continued to grow during the third quarter of 2010, according to the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC). Its latest survey has shown that the number of air transactions is up 12% compared to the same period last year and have exceeded 2008 levels. Hotels have also seen 10% growth and rail transactions have increased 7%. “The survey of transactions by GTMC members is indicating that recovery in the business travel sector is slow but steady,” said Anne Godfrey, chief executive of GTMC. “The real sign that business travel is on the up is the encouraging recovery of air travel and with the first double digit increase in hotel bookings, since the first quarter of 2008, it would appear that business travellers are not just making business trips but are staying overnight.”
