Chile anticipates ‘Miner’s effect’ to boost arrivals

Turismo Chile has predicted a major rise inpassenger numbers from Europe and the US in response to its feel-good story ofthe year, following the rescue of the 36 Chilean Miners two weeks ago. “We havestarted a new campaign called Chile is good for you,” a spokesperson forTurismo Chile said. “We are very proud of what happened in our country over thepast few weeks - and this event has helped our country tell the rest of theworld that Chile can be a force for good and we can make good things happen.” Atthe centre of the new campaign is the Chilean government’s wish to promoteenvironmental sustainability and the diversity of experiences along the country’s4000 kilometre coastline. Chile’s priority markets for 2011 will be with Braziland Argentina on the regional front but in Europe will solely focus on the UK,Spain, France and Germany. In 2009, Chile received 48,000 arrivals  from the UK.
