FCO urges skiers to take out insurance

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has urged skiers to take out sufficient travel insurance after it revealed that 31 percent of UK holidaymakers do not cover themselves for winter sports holidays. FCO’s research also revealed that only 16 percent of travellers read the small print and only 53 percent understood the conditions of European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC). “We strongly advise those hitting the slopes this winter to take out comprehensive travel insurance,” said Phil Lord, from the FCO’s Know Before You Go campaign. “Many skiers will be unaware that their insurance may not cover them if they’ve been drinking alcohol or for skiing off-piste.” Insurance claims are said to cost from
