Business as usual for Fiji despite hurricane

Tourism Fiji CEO Josefa Tuamoto has said that the Pacific island state has returned to “business as usual”, following the end of a severe tropical depression. While international flights continued unabated throughout the storm, local air services, cruise operations and inter-island ferry services, he said, were gearing up to resume full operations. Speaking from Tourism Fiji’s head office in Nadi, Mr Tuamoto advised that while some hotel and resort operators across the destination had reported damage from strong winds and the heavy rain, damage in the main had been minimal and all guests and staff had remained safe. “Tropical depressions are a standard part of life in the South Pacific at this time of year and we prepare accordingly for these situations,” he added.
