Vueling becomes first foreign airline to open in Amsterdam

Spanish airline Vueling is to become the first foreign carrier based at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. The opening of the new base is part of Vueling’s international growth plan that will increase its flight schedule at Schiphol by 35 percent, with a total of 636,000 seats during summer 2011. Vueling’s route network from the Dutch capital will also increase with three new destinations - Alicante, Palma de Majorca and Zurich - reaching a total of ten routes operated from the Dutch airport. “We have carried nearly two million passengers and the creation of this new international base demonstrates the commitment we have to the Netherlands and the Dutch people,” said the carrier’s CEO Alex Cruz. Vueling’s new base will be the company’s ninth and the second international one to be opened in 2011, along with Toulouse.
