Agents ‘put-off’ selling Sharm El Sheikh

Several travel agencies have been ‘put off’ selling holidays to Sharm El Sheikh following the shark attacks, according to Red Sea Holidays. The tour operator’s sales director Jason Hilton has blamed ‘conflicting information in the consumer press on which resorts had been affected’ for the agents’ concern. However, the majority of agents maintained that they would continue to sell the destination. Now the company is planning to host a series of fam trips in January to cover Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Dahab. “We understand that agents may have concerns so are launching this series of fam trips to show agents that the Red Sea is very much open for business,” said Hilton. “The trips will focus on the quality infrastructure, value and extensive tourism offering the Red Sea has, showing agents that culture, excursions and land based activities are all also part of the mix. This will help them inform and advise their customers accurately and with confidence.” The first week long fam trip will take place on 23 January.
