Dubai predicts 58.3% cruise growth by 2015

Dubai’s cruise tourism is set to grow 58.3 percent by 2015, officials have predicted. The emirates’ cruise season started this week with the arrival of Costa Deliziosa and expects to reach 190 ship calls with 575, 000 passengers in five years time. “Cruises are an important part of Dubai’s tourism as a whole and it’s growing rapidly,” said Hamad Mohammad Bin Majren, executive director of business development at Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). As well as the cruise terminal at Port Rashid, a temporary cruise facility is also being built to handle the ship visits. Bin Majren has also called for other Gulf countries to develop their ports. “We need others to develop so cruises will have more destinations on their itineraries,” he explained. “More options will mean more ships.”
