Tuesday 11th January expected to be busiest day of year for flight bookings

More than 87,000 flights are expected to be snapped up by British holidaymakers today, according to predictions from Visa Europe. New data shows that the number of UK cardholders booking flights peaks at this time every year with the Monday and Tuesday of the second week of January consistently the busiest days of the year. On the same Tuesday (12th January) in 2010, more than 83,000 bookings were made using Visa cards, whilst in 2009 nearly 70,000 were made on the corresponding day (Tuesday 13th January). “We expect to see in excess of 87,000 flight bookings taking place on Tuesday 11th January as people take advantage of outstanding deals being offered by many airlines and holiday companies,” explained Tony Gibbons, head of debit at Visa Europe. “Historically, early January sees a huge surge in bookings as people’s thoughts turn to a sunny weekend away to ease the back-to-work blues. Many consumers are looking to ‘get away from it all’, especially if they are able to do so at a bargain price.”
