Astraeus Airlines operates first FCO rescue flight out of Cairo

Commercial aircraft management and leasing company Astraeus Airlines successfully completed the first FCO organised evacuation flight out of Cairo last week. Captain Anthony Jenner led the Astraeus crew on the Boeing 757-200 with 161 passengers, which landed at London-Gatwick Airport on Thursday night. Astraeus also flew the first flight out of Cairo, following the start of protests, on behalf of British Airways, and was amongst the first into Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. “Astraeus has extensive experience of stepping in at short notice to provide ‘rescue flights’ for Britons stranded abroad, and this one, while no less challenging, went smoothly once we had everybody on board,” said Mario Fulgoni, chief executive of Astraeus. “My understanding was that check-in and passenger processing was pretty chaotic because of the sheer numbers of non-Egyptian nationals crammed into the airport, but once everybody was on board everything went perfectly smoothly, albeit it landing rather later than scheduled because of delays in Cairo.”
