Rail Europe reports record trade sales

Rail Europe has reported 2010 as a record trade sales year, with bookings up 20 percent year-on-year. The company’s sales have more than doubled following the launch of its dedicated trade website. Paul Lacey, new head of trade sales at Rail Europe, said that demand for train travel had grown last year. “The ash crisis and airline strikes both impacted heavily on travel last year and they have helped to raise awareness of rail travel as an alternative to flying,” he explained. “In line with this, there has been an underlying upward trend for some time fuelled by things like greener thinking, favourable comparisons in overall travel times, easier check-in, greater comfort, minimal luggage restrictions, excellent value and even a sense of adventure.”
