VisitBritain ‘right to focus on key markets’, says BHA chief executive

VisitBritain is right to focus on certain key overseas markets in response to budget cuts, according to the British Hospitality Association (BHA). The national tourism agency announced last week that it is to withdraw from a number of overseas markets because of a cut to funding, which may result in a series of enforced job cuts. “Unfortunate though it is, the need for VisitBritain to re-focus became imperative once the government’s 34 per cent cut in funding was announced,” said Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the BHA. “It is far better to concentrate on key markets than to spread resources too thinly over a wider area and thus be far less effective.” However, the BHA has expressed concern that the business market - worth more than
