Melbourne Airport saw a 20 percent increase from UK passengers last year, according to the latest airport figures. Strong December results saw a record breaking 27.7 million travellers pass through the airport in the Australian state of Victoria, an increase of 10 per cent over 2009. The record result was also boosted by a 14 percent increase in international passengers in 2010 over the previous year to reach 5.9 million international passengers. The strong international passenger performance was driven by growth from the United Kingdom, and then by Asia and New Zealand. Increased international passenger numbers were aided by new and increased flights to Melbourne in 2010, which lifted seat capacity by 1,000,712 seats, a rise of 13 per cent on the previous year.
