Lufthansa returns to Rio

Lufthansa has announced that it will relaunch flights to Rio de Janeiro this winter as the airline continues its expansion into South America. Five weekly flights will operate on the route and the first will take off on 30 October. “South America, with its dynamic economy, is one of the most important growth markets for Lufthansa,” said Dr. Alexis von Hoensbroech, VP hub development and capacity management Frankfurt at Lufthansa. “With the launch of the new service to Rio de Janeiro, Lufthansa will be adding a key destination, which is popular among businesspeople and leisure travellers alike, to its route network.” Lufthansa previously operated to Rio de Janeiro from 1956 until 2005 but has reintroduced the route after strong economic growth in the region.
