ITB reports increase in visitors

ITB Berlin has revealed that it has seen an increase in visitors and exhibitors this year to its convention programme, while trade numbers to the show remained stable. Despite a rail strike in the city during the show, ITB has reported that 110.791 trade members attended the event, while 15 percent more delegates headed to the convention. It is thought that contracts signed at the show will surpass the EUR6 billion secured last year. Meanwhile its inaugural UNWTO Silk Road Ministers Summit was scheduled at the right time in light of disruption in the Middle East and North Africa.”As we welcomed the new Egypt and Tunisia at ITB 2011 I was struck by the remarkable demonstrations of solidarity shown by the international tourism community to these two destinations,” said Taleb Rifai, secretary general of the UNWTO. “ITB Berlin has also confirmed the rising confident among the tourism sector, with 2011 set to consolidate the impressive tourism growth of 2010.”
