CWT figures show business travel continues to rise

Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) has reported a 13.5 percent year-on-year growth in sales for 2010, suggesting that business travel is continuing to rise. The business travel management company reported sales of US$24.3 billion last year, with the number of transaction up 11.9 percent. The EMEA region faced the lowest increase at 6.6 percent as the region still struggles under the recession. Meanwhile, CWT’s number of transactions increased most in the Asia Pacific region (27.7 percent), followed by Latin America (18.4 percent) and North America (12.7 percent). “Our growth in 2010 was driven by our success in retaining our clients, winning new business and of course, a more favorable economic environment,” said Douglas Anderson, president and CEO of CWT. “These excellent results were particularly significant in 2010 as there were many travel disruptions including heavy snow falls in Europe and the U.S. and the Iceland volcano eruption.”
