Google has launched a series of website guides as part of its scheme to help more small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) get online. The free guides offer businesses tips and advice for improving websites and boosting online presence. In addition, the company has launched a competition to find the best travel website and therefore encourage SMEs to build their own. “We know the UK travel industry is bursting with fantastic websites so we’re excited about searching for the very best. We want to showcase the best websites and help tech-savvy businesses to inspire those who are not online,” explained Matt Brittin, managing director of Google UK. “We’re out to prove that getting online is fast, easy and inexpensive – small businesses which aren’t online are missing out on customers and on growth. Our Getting British Business Online tool is free to use for the first year and our new Google Guides will help make it easy for anyone to create a website.” The competition is free to enter and is open to UK travel businesses with 50 full-time staff or less.
