P&O Cruises has announced it is to expand its fleet in March 2015 with a new 141,000-tonne ship. The vessel will be the eighth in P&O’s fleet and will carry 3,611 passengers. It will be built in the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and will be the largest ship built for the British market. “The UK continues to be a key growth market and innovative vessels such as this new P&O Cruises ship, targeted specifically to British clientele , underscore our commitment to leading the expansion of this important cruise region,” said Micky Arison, chairman and CEO of Carnival Corporation. Carol Marlow, managing director of P&O said the ship would include the cruise line’s well-known brand traits. “She will offer ‘the best of the best,’ combining the favourite classic features of Oriana and Aurora, the choice and variety of Azura and Ventura, and a host of new ideas and concepts,” she added.
