Starwood Hotels & Resorts has opened its first Westin hotel in South America. The property is named The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center and is located in Peru. It has 301 rooms and the largest meetings facilities in the country. Osvaldo Librizzi, Latin America president at Starwood said the hotel chain is set to double its portfolio in the region by 2012. “We are delighted to make our landmark entry in South America, where we expect to aggressively grow the Westin brand over the next decade,” added Brian Povinelli, global brand leader at Westin Hotels & Resorts. The opening follows the launch of The Westin Resort & Spa in Playa Conchal, Costa Rica earlier this year. Hotels will also open in Panama and Mexico later this year.
