Four-day weekend confirmed for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Britain will have a four-day weekend in June next year to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, it has been revealed today. Next year, the Whitsun Bank Holiday will be postponed until Monday 4 June and then another bank holiday is to be added on 5 June. This year the double bank holiday around Easter and the Royal Wedding had caused many Brits to travel overseas, so the prospect for a four-day weekend is likely to spark the same trend. Meanwhile in England, there will be a televised concert at Buckingham Palace and a Big Jubilee Sunday Lunch to mark the 60th anniversary. James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland said the news would be welcomed by accommodation businesses in England. This follows its Business Confidence Monitor, which showed that 80% of providers were very or quite satisfied with their performance during the Easter holiday period. “Over a quarter (28% of accommodation businesses felt the double bank holiday around the Royal Wedding this year had a positive impact,” he added. “An extra day off to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee will provide a great feel good factor at the start of the summer and I’m sure will encourage more Brits to take a break at home.”
