UK gathers pace in European tourism figures

The UK has become a more popular destination to take a holiday in both the domestic and wider European markets, according to two travel websites. Octopus Travel has said it has seen a near 15% increase in UK bookings compared to the same time last year with Leeds, London, Liverpool, York and Birmingham listed as top-selling destinations. Likewise hotel booking website trivago has found that 27.1% of Brits are looking to holiday within the UK, with Spain, the US, Italy and France named as the next popular destinations. The website’s latest figures also showed that the UK had moved up in preference amongst the European market, moving up three places to fifth and jumping from 15th to fifth place amongst French travellers alone.
