Europcar has announced that it is to introduce an electric car to its fleet by the end of this year. Opel’s Ampera is to be deployed at the car hire firm’s outlets in Germany from November, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands. It will then be rolled out to France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the UK during 2012. “Electric cars are among the best long-term solutions to meet society’s energy and environmental challenges,” said Alain Visser, vice president sales, marketing and aftersales at Opel/Vauxhall. “The fact that Europcar is going to introduce the Opel Ampera to its day-to-day business is further proof that our extended-range electric vehicle is completely suitable for everyday use – even as a fleet vehicle in the tough rental car business.” Customers will be given a 15-minute introduction to the car at pick-up and will be handed advice on energy-efficient driving in battery operation.
