Tunnel opening provides better access to Portsmouth port

Road access to and from Portsmouth International Port has been improved by a new tunnel. The Hindhead Tunnel has simplified a section of the A3 that was previously hit by regular traffic jams that at times added an hour to journeys. In non-peak times the tunnel is expected to cut journey times by 25 minutes. “The Hindhead Tunnel is going to make the journey from London and the South East even easier, with less time spent in the car or on a coach,” said Martin Putman, port manager at Portsmouth. “It should make for a more relaxing journey to the Port, and leave time to enjoy the excellent new facilities in our brand new passenger terminal.”
