Travel agents in the UK can now book tickets for Vietnam Railways following an agreement with International Rail. The deal will allow the trade to view schedules and prices online with the option to book through IR’s call centre. “Rail travel has always been a part of a trip to Vietnam but never before have UK visitors been able to research and book their tickets before they travel through their travel agent or tour operator,” said Rod Maton, chairman of International Rail. “The trade will also benefit from commission rates which will be specifically set with each interested operator or agency”. The main train journeys travel from Hanoi-HCMC to Saigon which covers Vietnam from north to south, Hanoi to Lao Cai in the north west and Hanoi to Dong Dang in the north east. The latter two provide further travel into China. The first direct flights from the UK to Vietnam will commence in December.
