Thomas Cook/Co-op merger approved

The merger between Thomas Cook, the Co-operative Group and the Midlands Co-operative Society has been fully approved by the Competition Commission. In a final report published today, the CC said the merger would not create an unfair share of the market, particularly ‘customers buying package holidays from high street travel agents’. As a result, the CC explained that the joint venture meant customers were ‘unlikely’ to see holiday prices increase or a reduced choice. The final report has been published on time after comments were received within the initial consultation period.
