Olympic holiday getaway bookings commence

Travel Counsellors has reported a surge in sales for the Olympic Games period next year as many Brits look to escape the influx of tourists to the capital. Bookings through the homeworkers company have jumped 20% compared to the period last year, which could also be attributed to the number of early booking deals available. “We have certainly seen more people wanting to take their holiday during the Olympic period next year. There has been a lot of hype about how busy travelling will become as tourists from across the globe flock to the UK for the games, so many of the British public want to make sure they book early to avoid this,” said Steve Byrne, managing director at Travel Counsellors. The US, Turkey and Cyprus have been top-selling destinations, with the average booking value up 6% due to a longer holiday length and further afield destinations. On the other side of the scale, the company has seen the last minute trend affect its sales, notably a 23% rise in bookings in July for travel in the same month and 18% for August.
