A new tour operator has launched specialising in ‘hunting’ trips to see the Northern Lights. The company, named The Aurora Zone, has created a range of holidays that use dogsleds, skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles and minibuses to chase the Northern Lights and therefore give travellers a higher change of seeing the Lights. Its holidays also include suitable clothing, local guides and a paging device to tell travellers when the Lights are visible, even late at night. Alistair McLean, managing director of The Aurora Zone said the trips vary from active to a leisurely pace. “We select areas of very low population – most with 200 people or fewer living and staying there – and then use extremely experienced local guides and specialist forecasts. Many of the trips involve being out and about, but others are comfortably based in one hotel for those who are unable or unwilling to move around,” he explained.
