Thomson has been included in a top 10 list of online retailers from intelligence service Hitwise. The travel company is 10th in the list behind first place Amazon UK, Argos in second and Next in third. Thomson said the increase in hits had come from its increased online marketing activity including social media, a faster loading time and tailored banners. “This is a fantastic achievement for Thomson, and a great way to celebrate the hard work our team have put into making our site more user friendly,” said Nathan Timmins, head of online marketing at Thomson. Travel websites across the top 50 had seen an increase in hits compared to May 2011 due to the peak summer holiday period with last minute bookings. easyJet took 11th place in the list, while Expedia climbed three places to 14th, Ryanair moved up four places to 15th and Thomas Cook jumped six places to 17th. TravelRepublic, British Airways and Travelodge also featured in the top 50.
